* Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you’re going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you’re crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.
* I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.

So it’s been a while
It’s been a while since I’ve been here to blog. I haven’t had much to write about, but I thought I just give a quick update to the few who actually read my stuff. I’m very thankful for you all by the way I hope when you read some of it you are encouraged in Christ Jesus the author and finisher of our faith!
For the past 3 weeks I’ve been the Assistant Dorm Supervisor of the only mens dorm at Northland International University (NIU). I don’t really have much of an opinion about the job itself yet because it has been until this past Saturday that most of the guys got in the dorm. I’m not gonna lie, the first week was every bit of a spiritual battle for me. I’m pretty confident that the devil was on attack in my heart and in my mind sowing doubt and discontent and unbelief. But God who is rich in mercy used His word and the word of others to strengthen my heart and get my focus off of myself and onto the Cross. Christ has me here for a reason and I’m excited to be in the will of the Father!
The first three weeks were filled with meetings on philosophy of NIU. It has been great to meet and interact with the faculty of NIU. Filled with encouragement, love, and compassion for others, it was hard to not give God the glory for what He is doing here. Life touching life has always been the theme here at Norhtland and still is.
I’m still learning what it means to be the Assistant Dorm Supervisor, seeing that I’ve never lived in the dorms before, but to be honest, it’s not much different from living the christian life, Loving God and Loving others! I’m just getting paid for it:)
Anywho I’m still learning my way around and learning the people but it’s been a joy to see God at work.
Final Camp Update!
Well the time has come where we all at Northland Camp went our separate ways. That time was today and it was a time filled with joy and sorrow for many. It was more than just camp which drew us together as a staff. It was Jesus Christ who changed us all to be made more like Him! It was the commonality of our position in Christ which drew us all together. I learned so much this summer and I’m resting in God’s promises as I start this next stage of my life. Although I have many fears and doubts about these next 2-3 years of my life, the one thing I know that will never change is God’s Word! I praise Him for His love for me and how He seeks my good and wants to have a relationship with me! Wow! The God of the universe wants to have a relationship with me, a sinner! And not just any sinner, but the one who nailed Him to the cross! Jesus prays for me and intercedes for me even at this moment! What an Awesome God!
Weekly Update #8
Teen 4 was a GREAT week! It was so good to see God work in the hearts of these campers! Aaron C. directed our prayer for these campers in a unique way. His challenge for us as we prayed was to pray that God would hallow His name in there lives this week! I’ve never thought about praying for people like that. Praying that God would glorify His name in my life and in others lives was something new. I mean I’ve always kinda known that that was what was happening, but I usually pray that His name would be glorified as if I was the one that had to live a life that would glorify Him. When in actuality God is the one who glorifies His name in me! It was one of those “Well Duh, Q why not pray like that since that’s what really is happening! Live your theology Q!” moments. God is so good to show me areas in my life where my thinking isn’t quite right. He does with love and patience, because I’ve already caught myself praying that God’s name would be glorified rather than that God would glorify His name.
Last week also good because the Red team won last week! The first time all summer! God was so kind to let us win and it was well orchestrated on His part, like it always is, because my counselors needed to His greatness! The week was a real turn around when on Wednesday, I read from Job 38-40. It was then that I was reminded by God that I’m small! This is not of my doing, I have no power, I’m weak, I’m finite, and I need God. I don’t deserve this opportunity that God has given me this summer! I’ve been blessed in all areas of my life and so many times I take it for granted or I start thinking I deserve these blessings. This of course is anything but truth. Truth speaks of eternal separation from God and eternal punishment, but God commended His love toward me and saved me from the lies of sin and its judgment. God’s goodness is everywhere and I have truely tasted and seen that the Lord is good!
This week is the last of teen camp for this summer! I’m really excited about it and pumped to see how God changes campers and how He is going to change me! I have mixed emotions about this week because some of me wants it to not end and another part is really anticipating this next weekend! But I will not let the hope of rest get in the way of serving God today and right now! Please pray that the Red team would love like they’ve never loved before and that God would hallow His name in all our hearts this week!
Weekly update #6 and #7
I missed last week due to transition between weeks and because Brit was up here:) I was SO glad that Brit got to come up for that Family Camp week. We got to spend some real good time together. I love being with her so much! That family camp went real well. The Freedom Celebration was a success and no one was injured. God has really blessed these last couple of weeks with some AWESOME weather! High 70’s and a cool breeze all day long with not a cloud in the sky!
Teen camp 3 came and went along with a chance for the Red team to have a victory. Even though we did not win the week, God still worked in the hearts of Campers! I believe there were at least 26 teens who except Jesus as their Savior last week and many many many more who made decisions for the Kingdom of God. I must rehearse to myself that God is good ALL the time!
Next week is Teen camp 4 and it is REALLY small. I’m talken like 40 teens a team and like 3-5 teens in a cabin. As oppossed to last week and the teen week before that where we were pulling op staff and PV counselors to Teen Counsel with 10-12 teens in each Room! This week is going to be great bc we will all have more opportunities to get into the hearts and lives of these campers and really show them Christ! I know that God will work this week in spite of our sin and He will have the Glory for all that is done!
Weekly Update #5
The past week ended a two week sprint of teen camps. Although my Red team did not win any of the two weeks, we had great spiritual victory. We had many kids come to know Christ as their personal Savior. Some teens made great leaps for Christ and others made baby steps, yet they were changed and they took the next spiritual step. God’s goodness is everywhere! I wish I had some numbers just to give you all an idea of how God worked, but I don’t and it’s not about the numbers anyway. Life is all about God!
This past week was a test of my pride and God really pointed out areas in my life where I had not given Him. Yet in His love, He brought me back to the Cross and I’m being sanctified by His grace.
This week is going to be a little of break from teen camp because we have family camp this week. There is also the Freedom celebration on Friday, please pray that God would hold off the rain so we can enjoy and celebrate the Freedom that He has given us!
The summer is not over and though this break is going to be nice, there are 3 teen camps right in a row to follow this week. I’m really excited about what God is doing and how He will continue to change me to be made more like Him!
Good News
You are the God who reconciles the wayward heart through Christ
The old has gone, the new has come
We are reconciled by love, We are reconciled by love
And this is the new song we sing
To the king of heaven
This is the new song we bring
After all you’ve given We stand before you redeemed
As your children This is the new song we sing
We who were once so far away are brought near by Your blood
The barrier has been destroyed
By Your grace we freely come, by Your grace we freely come.
We live in You, we live for you
We live to you our king
We stand in You, we stand for You
We stand as your redeemed ‘Your redeemed!’
And this is the new song we sing
To the king of heaven
This is the new song we bring
After all you’ve given We stand before you redeemed
As your children This is the new song we sing
Weekly Update #4
Teen 1 over and boy was it a good week! There were some 18 kids who excepted Christ as their Savior this past week! What an awesome God we serve to love us filthy, dirty, rotten sinners! The camp site was quite today because everyone was so tired. Camp really is an awesome thing! This next week is going to be HUGE! Every counselor has at least 9 campers and this isn’t even the biggest week we have. The construction to rooms is also causing quite a problem because that’s 4-5 extra rooms we don’t can’t use… but the Lord is good and he is going to stretch each and every one of my counselors in ways they haven’t even imagined! Please Pray for them. They need to be walking in the spirit!
Weekly Update #3
This is week was the first week of camp. It just so happened to be a family camp. This summer camp is set up like this, 9 weeks of camp:
Week 1- family camp
Week 2-3- teen camp
Week 4- family camp
Week 5-7 teen camp
Week 8- specialty camp
Week 9- family camp
During Family camp I’m in charge of all the teens that come with their families. We have an awesome program for them and play some awesome games. We also bring in people from camp to speak to them in the evenings. Family camp is a lot more relaxed and less hectic than Teen camp
Teen Camp is what it’s all about! I love teen camp and that is next week! As team leader of the Red team, I don’t get any campers, but I get to have counselors! This is my chance to serve my councilors in everyway possible! As they serve and love their campers, I get to serve and love them! I will post some pics or maybe a vid of what the RED team Room looks like. This is the room that the entire RED team meets everyday for, cheers, info, skitts, and other fun stuff. The best thing about all the games, cheers, food, and other fun stuff is that we aren’t doing it just to have fun! We are doing this stuff to break down walls in campers hearts and life so that they can see Jesus in us! Please pray for all of us up here at Northland Camp as we seek to serve for the sake of Christ’s Kingdom!
This past week my Brother got married. So I was only at camp till Wednesday of this past week. It was a good wedding and I’m really glad that they are both Happy! They have a really cute little house in Greenville and Nikki is going to Grad school and Hunter is working. I couldn’t be happier for them!
Free to Love
Galatians 5:13-15
13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
Liberty! Christian Liberty! What does that mean? In today’s society it, Christians use liberty as an excuse for there sin. In fact, Christian Liberty does not give you the freedom TO sin, but it gives freedom FROM sin! Christian liberty is twofold, first it is justification and second it is sanctification. When you believe in Christ as your savior, the Spirit liberates you from the bondage of sin and transforms the old man into the new man. If Christian liberty were limited to just justification, then it would lend to a life of no law where a believer could now live the way he wanted to live because it is all under the blood. Now it is true that my sin’s are all under the blood, but we are not to make liberty the base of operation for the flesh.
Christian liberty also includes sanctification. It is the Spirit who sanctifies. But the cool thing is that God doesn’t make us righteous by placing us back under the law, rather, He sends His spirit to help us a overcome the flesh! Without the Spirit, I would lose to the flesh all the time!
But Liberty is abused by Christian’s, when they allow the flesh to manipulate the freedom we have in Christ. The flesh says something is ok, because you are under the blood of Christ! The flesh HATES the Law of God! You can’t change the flesh so you must walk in the Spirit! So what does Christian Liberty look like!
It looks like a believer walking in the Spirit. According to Paul, we are to Love one another! The Law of God is fulfilled in our Love for others! I’m free to Love others! I’m also free from the flesh! I’m free not to be annoyed with people, free to not be frustrated, free to not be consumed of myself pride! When I’m asking “How far can go or What exactly can I do?” I’m already asking the wrong question. It’s not “How far can I go?”, but “How can I serve?”!
Praise God I’m free to LOVE!
